About Our Owner

My name is Matt Sgro and I am President and Founder of Elite Personal Training.  I am putting some of my story on here in hopes that someone who is in a similar situation as I was will see that things can be turned around.  I was in a bad life situation due to bad decisions, bad people, and a life of undiagnosed bipolar disorder which left me broke, depressed and incarcerated in Chester County Prison.

This is where I started to turn things around.  I studied, took and passed my Personal Training Certification while in the work-release center where inmates are given the chance to leave for work and prepare to be released.  A couple weeks after my release in September 2005 I was fortunate to find a job working the desk at a local gym.  I gave as many free workouts as I could to improve and hone my skills as a personal trainer.  About six months later I got a job as a full time trainer at another local fitness establishment and worked hard to improve my skills.

After a car accident where I dislocated my shoulder and cracked my knee cap I was on his back for a while.  This was another time in my life where I was given the opportunity to think about things, who I wanted to be, and where I wanted to go in life.  So after 3 months of healing and getting back to training I opened my own place, Elite Personal Training, in Exton, PA.

The studio was doing well and had a good number of clients as I did everything humanly possible to find clients and promote the business.  After six months I was looking to get into something more.  I started doing fund raising Boot Camp workouts, calling them Boot Camps With a Purpose, and searching for other fitness professionals that would be interested in doing the same thing.

Elite Personal Training has come a long way and is doing phenomenal in it's third year, adding trainers, busier than ever, and now in talks with other trainers to franchise.  Boot Camps With a Purpose has come a long way as well, with other trainers jumping on board, even trainers from other countries doing workouts to raise money for the causes they feel passionate about.

Having my own business doing something I love that has a positive effect on people's lives is a dream come true.  Starting an organization, hoping to turn it into more of a movement with the Boot Camp Project, that's unbelievable.  If it sounds like I'm beating my chest and bragging and boasting, please know that staying humble is very important to me.  I was the biggest screw up in the world and still have more than my share of moments today.  But overall, I feel good about where I am and what I'm doing.  That's what I hope someone in a bad spot can get out of this.

It's not where you've been or what you've done.  It's where you're going and what you're doing now.  If things look bleak, you're having a hard time, and you can't seem to get out of that rut, PUSH FORWARD.  Don't let this world keep you down.  Stay positive and keep trying new things until something clicks.  I won't lie to you, I gave up at one time.  I'm very grateful to still be here, involved in positive things, and able to say I really like my life.  I'm skipping some details of my life on here because they are the past, but things got pretty bad.  If you're there, please know I'm here praying for you.  There's something out there for you that will get you out of your rut.  You have to find it.  Keep fighting, searching, and pushing, and never, ever, EVER give up.

Matt
